I had a list of things I needed to finish. Come to think of it, I had many lists of things that I needed to do. I had a list in my head. A list posted to my wall in my office. A separate list in my binder and then there was even one next to my refrigerator.
One of the items on my list was to send a friend of mine this wonderful teaching CD I have heard. I was excited when on my visit to the Christian bookstore they had finally gotten it in.
I really do not like standing in line yet, I was glad to be standing in line at the pack and ship store because I was getting ready to ship it on its way.
This is one thing I can check off my list.
Ahead of me was a man that seemed glad that he too was getting things-to-do off his list. I watched him as he placed all the contents in his hands in this brown box. He even helped the clerk tape the box closed. After he paid her, he hurried out of the door.
Well, as I was paying for my postage, the same man rushed back in. It was apparent he was frantic about something.
He asked, “Is my cell phone in the box?”
Surprised by his comment the store clerk responded, “Yes, it is. We thought you wanted to mail it.”
“No, I did not mean to mail it.” He continued. He was so relieved that the box could be opened so he could get the cell phone out of it.
He was so busy thinking about getting the box shipped that he did not focus on what he placed in the box.
It’s like that when it comes to us and our minds. It is a constant battle to maintain a godly mind.
Seriously, there are things constantly coming at us trying to get in the box. An endless list of wrong thoughts, wrong music, wrong conversations, wrong news, wrong people saying, “Put us in the box, too!”
In Philippians 4:8, Paul says:
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report: if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
Yet, we must pay attention and keep our minds focused on what God has given us to put in the box. The good news is that every item on God’s list is about Him. I love that.
